Let’s face it – Makeup is an expensive business and being a fanatic myself, I have been into the habit of laying my hands on expensive stuff, for the longest time that I can even remember.
But if you are someone who is just starting out or you are a beginner, who hardly knows anything about makeup, let alone makeup hacks, then you have my back. I say this because from my personal experience when I started doing my makeup, it wasn’t as seamless as it is for me now. Another factor is that I decided to give some inexpensive hacks a shot and see if they actually do any good.
I used to constantly hunt for ideas, that will help me save my money. Then be it on makeup remover or a lip shade that I really like, everything that I wanted, came with a hefty price tag and that was when I decided to switch to some amazing makeup hacks.
Makeup hacks are also innumerous but I am going to list down all the things that are inexpensive and something you can do at the leisure of your home, without having to spend a lot of money on these items.
Take a look at all (almost) these household items that will elevate your beauty routine and also help in fixing a lot of issues, just in case you were planning to discard a particular product. Follow this read and save your money!
1. Using Baby Oil Or Olive Oil
To be honest, I find makeup removers available in the market, to be highly overrated while this is one product that can be made at home as well. Think olive oil or baby oil.
These two items work well as makeup removers and they are way cheaper than the ones you see in the market. All you need are cotton pads or wipes to get rid of the makeup.
Olive oil is not just any random oil that I picked from a store and used it for my skin. The reason why a lot of people use this as a makeup remover is that it has four main antioxidants in it that help moisturize your skin while also dissolving the makeup. Other than that, it helps fight anti-aging signs.
2. Match Tinted Moisturizer
Foundations last longer but did you know that even this blending beauty can be reused and it works as the best makeup hack, ever? All you need is a travel bottle and some moisturizer to make this hack worthy.
As per Kevin James Bennett, beauty and expert and Emmy winner said that foundations come in various shades and can go from light to dark but when it is used as a tinted moisturizer, it works fine for the skin, even better if the moisturizer comes with SPF.
Take a travel-sized bottle and mix some foundation with at least four equal parts of moisturizer to it. Then shake the bottle well and store this homemade beauty product.
The moisturizer added in it, adds more fire to the coverage, giving that sheer and dewy effect to your skin.
3. Let Your Products Do Double Duty
There are so many ways in which you can avoid spending money on some makeup products. Buying one product can also be used for other purposes, case in point, a lipstick, which you can definitely apply on your lips but also blend it on your cheeks and work it as a blush.
Coming to glittery eye makeup, you can use it to as a highlighter, especially the golden and silver one in it.
Turn your bronzer or your blush as eyeshadow makeup. There are so many makeup experts who have been following these hacks and to be honest, the makeup looks as real as what an original product would do.
4. Make Your Own Wings
Winged eyeliner sounds terrifying and despite giving it several tries, after watching a gazillion videos, that feline wing eyeliner won’t come through. So, do you give up? Hell, no.
Surprisingly, the art of winged eyeliner is easy to master and without being anxious the next time you pick your product, here’s how this life-saving tip will give your look an edge.
Drawing that perfect stroke is possible because all you need to do is open your chest drawer and find a tape to stick beneath your lower lash. When you do that and then draw the stroke, you are gonna be no less than a pro at makeup!
5. Make Your Lipstick Matte
If you like having matte lipsticks but don’t want to splurge on them, there’s a makeup hack that can save you. Your makeup kit might already include a concealer of your skin tone. So, before you buy a new lip shade which is matte and probably out of your budget, take out your concealer and conceal your lips first with it. Wait for a minute till this magical thing blends onto your lips. Then take your favorite lip color and apply it over your lips. This way the lipstick turns matte and it doesn’t have the drying effect as well.
Another way you can make any lipstick appear matte is by applying some talcum or your compact powder on it. Once done, just brush off the excess and you are done!
6. Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is really helpful on days when you don’t want to shower. If your hair is looking fragile and you want to add that bounce to it, the best way to do so is by substituting baby powder for that expensive dry shampoo. Applying talcum into sections of your hair on the scalp and then brushing your hair is literally one of the magical hacks that you will see. Ensure that you don’t go OTT with this idea, or your roots will end up looking dusty.
This trick is the best one if you have an oily scalp.
7. Using Coffee Powder
Give your skin that beauty boost with the help of coffee powder. This is like the most inexpensive makeup hack, which promises to revive your skin by exfoliating it effectively and removing all the dead skin cells.
You can make a coffee scrub at home. This costs half the amount you would splurge on a product in the market and this is how you make it.
- Mix ground coffee with 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Add a little coconut oil to this and a bit of vanilla extract as well.
- Now, that you have all the ingredients in place, mix them well.
- With this mixture, gently rub your skin and refrain from applying it near your eyes. Keep this mixture on for a few minutes and then rinse off thoroughly.
I have personally tried this recipe at home, and surprisingly, my salon visits to get de-tan or massages stopped. Thanks to this amazing hack that I explored.
8. Washing Brushes With Baby Shampoo
For every little makeup product, there’s another product that you need to lay your hands on and this saga is never-ending, which only means you will spend a lot of money getting it all.
Even your brushes and sponges need cleaning from time to time but for the same, there are products in the market, selling at a higher price.
But if you don’t want to shell out so much, there’s a practical way which can be done at the comfort of your home as well. Yes, all you need is a baby shampoo that won’t burn a big hole in your pocket.
I used to spend a lot of money on hi-end brands to get the best of brush cleaners but turns out that this inexpensive way of just mixing some baby shampoo with water and dipping brushes while swirling them for a while, clean it as any other product out there.
Keep them to dry and when that’s done, they are back to being super clean and moreover, they smell fantastic.
9. Cleaning Blackheads At Home
Tired of seeing those blackheads coming onto your skin every damn time? Then here’s your cue to get rid of it, without having to do much or looking for pore strips also. Using natural remedies is the best way to slough off dirt and grime from your face. Get rid of stubborn blackheads by mixing baking soda and water. Scrub this mixture on affected areas and rinse it off. Voila, the blackheads are gone!
So these are some tips and tricks that I have explored so far and they have worked wonders for me. Switch up your routine with these spectacular makeup hacks and flaunt them in front of your friends, like you are a pro at it. Extra points because all this is really inexpensive!
